The Louisiana Department of Health said this is one of the worse flu seasons it has seen in decades.
There are thousands of cases in Louisiana and the Health Department says hundreds could die.
"Get your shots," Stephanie Chatellier said.
Chatellier said she recently got the flu and was not vaccinated.
"You cough so much you feel like someone is beating your chest with a baseball bat," Chatellier said.
West Jefferson Medical Center says from December to January it has had 730 cases.
Children’s Hospital said since September it has had 898 cases of Influenza A and 193 cases of Influenza B.
"We are going to have tens of thousands of doctor visits, more than 8,000 hospitalizations and possibly more than 700 deaths due to this particular flu season," Dr. Frank Welch said. "It is really serious in Louisiana."
Welch said there are three strains this year.
"Of those strains two are really serious," Welch said. "The H3N2 AND H1N1 they tend to make people sicker for longer and tend to spread really fast."
The Health Department says flu season normally ends in February and this year it expects it to stretch to April.
Ochsner Health System and East Jefferson General Hospital also said they have seen an increase in cases.
