LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Lafayette moms are demanding action on gun violence in light of the Sandy Hook anniversary.

Thursday will mark the 5th anniversary of the mass shooting. Twenty-six people died in the shooting, 20 of them were children.

Wednesday night, a vigil was held to remember those victims. The Greater Lafayette chapter of Moms Demand Action held the vigil at St. Johns Church in Lafayette.

During the vigil, each victim’s name was read out loud and a candle was lit in their memory.

Member Kathy Parker said because of the Sandy Hook shooting and the recent shootings, she’s demanding harsher guns laws.

"Sandy Hook just changed people," said Parker. "And five years is a long time and we’re all mindful that in that five years an additional 150,000 people have also been lost to gun violence."

The vigil was followed by discussion on what should be done to help stop mass shootings.
